The Maze
"No Exit" confronts the complexity of trauma recovery through a disorienting maze of exit signs. I designed and built a 40x60 foot maze installation using several hundred photographs of exit signs. By subverting these universal symbols of escape, the installation creates an environment of anxiety and hypervigilance that mirrors post-traumatic stress.
In challenging our culture's preference for quick fixes, the work invites viewers to contemplate how healing defies simple labels and demands patience.
This art installation was presented alongside a 2019 panel discussion on PTSD hosted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and sparked dialogue about mental health recovery as a nuanced, ongoing journey.
